Mr. Vusumuzi Sifile
Chairperson
Vusumuzi Sifile is a non-profit leader, journalist, human rights defender, communication for development and knowledge management specialist currently serving as the Executive Director of Panos Institute Southern Africa, a media advocacy and communication for development organisation that uses technology and other tools to amplify voices of poor and marginalized communities to shape the development agenda. Vusumuzi also serves on the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative (CoST) Zambia Multi Stakeholder Group, and is part of the leadership of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Zambia CSO Alliance. From September 2021 to November 2025 he served as part of the Steering Committee of the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), an umbrella body of more than 200 media development and journalism support organisations from across the world, and a member of the Action Coalition on Information Integrity and Elections, a global initiative to share expertise, guidance, and knowledge on effective responses to disinformation and hate speech in elections, including the role of digital technologies.
Vusumuzi has expertise and interest in the deployment of media and technology tools to promote information integrity and identify and address the effects of misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and other forms of information pollution.
He previously served as Panos’ Knowledge Management and Communications Manager, and also as the head of the organisation’s Environment and Natural Resource Management Regional Programme. Before joining Panos, Vusumuzi worked for various local and international media outlets, as well as non-profit organisations, including as a Senior Staff Writer for The Standard, an independent Sunday newspaper in Zimbabwe, a reporter for the now defunct Parade magazine and the Weekly Times (both in Zimbabwe), Communications Assistant for the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) Southern Africa, and had a brief stint in Botswana as Editor of The Mirror newspaper. Vusumuzi was also a correspondent for the Inter Press Service (IPS) News Agency, the UN Integrated Regional Information Networks (IRIN), the Radio Voice of the People, among online based publications with a focus on Zimbabwe and Southern Africa. Vusumuzi has academic qualifications in Journalism and Media Studies (undergraduate), and in Knowledge and Information Systems Management (Postgraduate). He also has professional qualifications in Multimedia and Online Journalism, Conflict Management and Mitigation, Results Based Monitoring and Evaluation, Web 2.0. and social media for Development, among others.

Ms. Sarah Wesonga

Sarah leads ARTICLE 19’s strategic direction on access to information, information integrity, and the protection of freedom of expression within global information ecosystems. Her work focuses on combating disinformation, hate speech, and information manipulation while promoting an enabling legal, policy and actual environment for transparency and information rights.
She is a seasoned researcher and policy analyst with a background in public policy, human rights, and advocacy, with a strong passion for the role of information in modern society. Sarah believes that access to reliable information is vital in empowering a knowledgeable and informed citizenry, which is essential for driving sustainable political and economic development.
In addition to her role at ARTICLE 19, Sarah serves as the Regional Coordinator for Sub-Saharan Africa at the UNCAC Coalition, where she plays a key role in shaping anti-corruption strategies across the region. She has been influential in various governance and transparency initiatives, including her work on Kenya's Open Government Partnership (OGP) Technical Committee and the Steering Committee for the Assessment of Access to Information Implementation in Kenya.
Notably, she has led impactful projects such as the European Union’s "Covid-19 Response in Africa: Together for Reliable Information" project, which provided critical information during the pandemic. She also contributes her expertise as a Thematic Expert Reviewer for Access and Openness indicators within the Africa Integrity Indicators project.

Mr. Mesud Gebeyehu Reta

Mesud holds LLB and LLM in Public International Law from Addis Ababa University and has been former Lecturer of Law and Director for Legal Affairs at Samara University, Ethiopia. He is a researcher and trainer on human rights, HRBA Programming and Protection Advocacy. Mesud is a Human Rights Defender who is the co-founder and Executive Director for the Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO), a consortium of 32 local Human Rights CSOs mainly engaged in capacity development of CSOs and key stakeholders, policy advocacy and broadening civic space.
Mesud is also Board chairperson of the Ethiopian Civil Societies Forum (ECSF), has been the co-chair of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission – CSOs Joint platform (August 2020- April 2024), Executive Committee member of the Ethiopian CSOs Council (ECSOC),.and Board member for the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), a regulator organ of the operation of CSOs in Ethiopia. Mesud has been also the Global Advocacy Working Group member under the Protection Cluster. Mesud designed programs aimed at empowering local CSOs, constructive engagement of CSOs and state institutions, durable solutions to displacement crisis and frontline and community centered protection advocacy at national, regional and global platforms. Mesud also attended and contributed to global advocacy platforms on protection of civilians, UPR reporting and research on (re)integration of people affected by displacement.

Mr. Dickson Kasote

Dickson Kasote is a dedicated media development professional and project leader with extensive experience in advancing transparency, public interest journalism, and media accountability. As a Project Lead at the NMT Media Foundation official site in Windhoek, Namibia, he has played a central role in shaping and implementing initiatives that strengthen media standards and public engagement, including leading the launch of The Green Screen — a media and civil-society hub focused on investigative reporting, research, and policy dialogue around energy and environmental governance. His work demonstrates a strong commitment to enhancing the capacity of journalists and civil society to produce high-quality content and contribute to informed public discourse.
Dickson brings to his work a deep understanding of media freedom, civic engagement, and collaborative programme delivery. In addition to his leadership on major projects at the NMT Media Foundation, he has been actively involved in broader sector efforts - for instance contributing to media accountability efforts and advocating for inclusive media practices that address digital threats and promote free expression. Through these engagements, Dickson has established a track record of strategic thinking, stakeholder coordination, and advocacy for ethical and impactful journalism - qualities that position him as a strong nominee for leadership roles focused on media development and governance.

Ms. Mina Mensah

Ms. Wilhemina (Mina) Mensah is a Development professional with a strong passion for the promotion and protection of human rights. She has worked extensively on human rights advocacy and is a strong advocate of Freedom of information. She is currently the Director of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) Africa Office based in Ghana and oversees the Offices programmes which include access to information, access to justice and human rights monitoring. She holds an MSC. in Development Studies from London South Bank University (UK), Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising from the Ghana Institute of Journalism and a Diploma in French from the Alliance Française (Ghana). She is a member of the Steering Committee of the Coalition on the Right to Information (RTI) Ghana and also a member of Ghana’s Open Government Steering Committee.

I'm the Executive Secretary of ADISI-Cameroon, a civil society organization that promotes access to information, open data, freedom of expression and media, research and study. I also coordinate a platform for the promotion of investigative journalism DataCameroon, and promotion of fact-checking, DataCheck.

Mr. Gilbert Sendugwa

Gilbert Sendugwa has a rich experience in successfully managing donor funded projects spanning nearly 2 decades. He has more than 15 years of leadership experience at senior management level in international organizations such as the International Labor Organization, Transparency International, Save the Children and the Uganda Law Society among others. Gilbert also sits on various Board of Directors and Steering Committees on non-profit organizations and initiatives. He successfully designed and implemented several donor- funded research and advocacy projects on open contracting and access to information in Africa. He has strong experience with managing multi-stakeholder initiatives, open contracting, anticorruption, social accountability, constructive engagement with governments and the business sector.
