Under this project, Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC) undertook a study in partnership with The Institute of Social Accountability(TISA) and Open Contracting Partnership (OCP) to understand the barriers and solutions to include women-led businesses in public procurement in Five projects countries ie Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
The project revealed that whereas governments in East Africa spend over 60% on public procurement, less than 1% of women-led businesses participate and win contracts.
