Celebrating Outstanding Access To Information Cases in Africa

  • 22/03/2024

Since 2010, the momentum for adoption and implementation of access to information has picked up and the number of African countries with access to information laws has increased from five in 2010 to 29 in 2024. While a considerable number of countries are yet to adopt ATI laws and implementation challenges persist, there are thousands of good ATI stories that are neither known nor told.

Ten most outstanding ATI cases in Africa will be profiled and celebrated during the global commemoration of the 2024 International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) to be hosted by the Government of Ghana and UNESCO, under the theme, Mainstreaming Access to Information and Public Participation Practices across Government Sectors”.

The cases will highlight how different institutions and population groups in Africa have used ATI in various sectors such as health, gender equality, youth, education, public administration, etc.  In addition to documenting the cases, officials behind these cases will be invited to share their experiences about the case. We believe this will be an incentive for them to continue doing better while motivating others in similar positions to learn and do the same.

Please kindly use this template to share information on the cases.
