With funding from the Global Partnership on Social Accountability (GPSA), AFIC in collaboration with Uganda Contracts Monitoring Coalition (UCMC) implemented a 4-year US$650,000 project with an aim to enhance performance and transparency of service
contracts in public sectors of health, education and agriculture.
The project, implemented in 5 districts in Uganda, led to increased disclosure of public contracting data evidenced by an increase from less than 4,000 to over 60,000 contracts being published, monitoring of contracts and submission of 42 recommendations to Districts and central government ministries as well as agencies in health, education and agricultural sectors. 922 citizens trained on access to information and how to track the execution of contracts and delivery of services as well as laws, policies and regulations governing public access to information and contracting. 45% of the recommendations were implemented by the government, resulting in authentic community participation in delivery of contracts and services, leading to community ownership of projects and better service delivery.
