Kenya Report-Gender Dimensions of Safety of Journalists -
The male and female journalists consulted had experienced or witnessed a workplace safety breach. The safety issues manifested through surveillance, cyberbullying, sexual harassment, and physical attacks. The female journalists discerned that most issues were explicitly sexist and misogynistic. Compared to their male colleagues, female journalists significantly reported more harassment by male editors, fellow reporters, news sources, politicians, and their supporters. More female than male journalists resorted to self-censorship, and some abandoned the profession altogether.
