The government has praised civil society and the media for their role in exposing corruption, attributing their effectiveness to digital technology and social media platforms. The commissioner of national guidance in the Ministry of Information, Kamarage Kakonge, highlighted the critical role played by civil society organizations and the media in holding government officials accountable. These remarks were made during the International Day of Universal Access to Information celebrations in Kampala, organised by the Africa Freedom of Information Centre, Makerere University, Twaweza, and the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
